Nutrition Society Winter Conference

20th & 21st January 2026

Novel nutrition research and technologies, pushing the boundaries of nutritional science

Members of the SODIAT team attended the Nutrition Society Winter Conference to present findings from the project. The conference opened with Professor Gary Frost delivering the plenary talk; “Is it time to let go of the past and embrace the future ?”. His talk showcased the advancements that have been made in recent years on digital and biomarker based tools for improving the accuracy of dietary assessment. Professor Frost highlighted the need to move beyond the traditional self-reporting tools and embrace the new technologies which will shape the next era of nutrition based research.

During the original communications session, Frank Lo presented AI-enabled passive dietary assessment using wearable cameras followed by Thomas Wilson presenting how urinary and lipid biomarkers can classify diets with very high accuracy; both of these presentations discussed findings from SODIAT-Study 1.

Rosalind Fallaize presented findings from a study where the eNutri app was used to support personalised nutrition support in NHS cardiac rehabilitation patients, followed by Michelle Weech who presented on the development of Diet Quality Score (DQS) that eNutri uses.
